Melbourne Elopement – Lavinia + Johnny

Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love…
Lavinia: I’m a marketing designer based in Melbourne. My heart lies in fashion. Johnny is a barista/accountant. We are both minimalists at heart.

How/where/when did you meet – and what were your first impressions?
We met through mutual friends, and we built a friendship (as Pokemon buddies) whilst strolling on the streets of Milan. Little did I know that this funny and gentle man would one day become my husband.

When did you first realise that this was someone you’d like to spend the rest of your life with?
About 8 months into our friendship, Johny asked me to be his girlfriend, I thought we could give it a go, so I said yes. After we started dating, we were inseparable. One thing that really stood out about our relationship was how similar we are to one another when it comes to those everyday mundane things. I feel like things just come naturally when you’ve found the right person.

Was there a proposal? Tell us a little about it…
We didn’t have a proposal, per se. One day, we walked by a jewellery shop as we were casually wandering on Collins Street, and we just went in, and the rest is history.

Tell us about the vision you had for the mood or style of your wedding…
We wanted something that was simple and timeless. Since both of our family couldn’t come to Australia to celebrate with us (due to travel restrictions at the time), we opted for an elopement with our closest friends.

What was one element you were happy to splurge on?
My gowns…hands down. I bought 4 and wore 3 lol

Did anything happen on the wedding day that you laugh about in hindsight (even if it was stressful at the time)?
We were informed that our ceremony place had been moved from the iconic Old Treasury Building to a rather random place (that kinda looks like a fish and ships shop) in Docklands last minute lol. Fortunately, Johnny was chill the whole time.

Tell us about your main outfits, what was unique, is there a story?
We were after a timeless and one-of-a-kind vibe to accentuate our essence.

For the ceremony, I chose a limited edition jumpsuit from Bianca Spender. I paired it with a neutral-coloured hat from Lack of Colour and a handmade veil I sourced overseas.  As for Johny, he had a navy blue suit from Club Monaco and wore a pair of Oxford shoes from Dior.

My second gown had a totally different vibe (even though it’s still a jumpsuit lol) – it’s kinda fashion-forward and structural that I got from Mia Atelier. Her attention to detail and fit was impeccable. We paired the jumpsuit with a big (bold) bow this time around.

My third dress is from Zara because I wanted something short to go with the bow and some sleeves along the way just for fun.
