The chemistry was immediate, but we took our time to get to know each other over a series of fun dates and cozy dinners.
Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love…
We both studied degrees that are focused on being in the outdoors, with Bronte as a Marine Scientist and Michael as a geophysicist. Our jobs and studies were driven by our love of the outdoors, understanding natural science, and travel to remote and beautiful locations. When home, we enjoy a good book, spending time with our dog, and watching trashy TV shows to decompress.
When did you first realise that this was someone you’d like to spend the rest of your life with?
Like with most, Covid was a huge period of change and growth for us individually, and also as a new couple. As WA forced border closures and close-contact ‘bubbles’, we found ourselves spending a significant amount of time exclusively with each other. It was during those early days going back and forth between our sharehouses, that we realized how comfortable we were in each-others company, had similar interests and world views, and how we could make the most of a bad situation. We moved in together soon after, and the rest as they say, is history.
Was there a proposal? Tell us a little about it…
Michael proposed to me on a holiday we took to Uluwatu, Bali. Our first holiday together in the early stages of dating was there, which was quickly followed by COVID and the end of travel for a few years. We were back for my birthday, and Michael pulled off the surprise two days before it. It was an intimate moment at the villa following a relaxing day filled with wellness activities.
Tell us about the vision you had for the mood or style of your wedding…
Our vision for the day was less about the aesthetic and more about the mood. We wanted it to be relaxed, romantic, intimate and joyful. We relied heavily on our fabulous celebrant, Nat from Wilderness Weddings, to organize our vendors and provide us with accommodation options for the day. We chose Sabi because of its philosophy of simplicity and embracing imperfection. We didn’t have a great deal of time to commit to planning our elopement, but we knew we wanted to be somewhere beautiful, quiet, and to really go with the flow on the day– and Nat absolutely delivered that for us. We had travelled to Tasmania a few years prior and fell in love with the rugged wilderness and the amazing produce.
What was one element you were happy to splurge on?
As this was an elopement with just the two of us, we didn’t really splurge on anything. However, the location and accommodation was really important in setting the mood of the day, we spent a lot of time looking at places until we landed on one that got us excited. That being said, Tassie has some incredible options for elopement, it was hard to choose!
Did anything happen on your wedding day that you laugh about in hindsight (even if it was stressful at the time)?
As it was just the two of us, there was nothing really stressful about the day. We were very fortunate with the weather and our vendors, we had a blast! Our photographer Ash brought great vibes and we had a lot of fun taking photos before, during and after the ceremony with her. It was such a treat to instantly click with our photographer, having not met prior to the day. I think that shines through in the gallery she produced for us.
