From the moment I saw the Barrel Hall at Sirromet I knew I wanted that warm romantic candlelit atmosphere, minimal florals and colour and just the abundance of candles reflecting off crisp whites and neutrals. The reception space turned out dreamier than we could have ever imagined.
Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love…
Monique — I’m a Registered Nurse, whilst Dave works in construction recruitment. We have two beautiful young children, Reeve 3yrs and Corbin 2yrs. Our life revolves around our family, making memories and navigating parenthood together. I think one of the most special aspects of our relationship journey has been seeing each other evolve as a mother/father.
How/where/when did you meet – and what were your first impressions?
Monique — Like most people these days we met online, and believe us no one is more shocked than us at how we fluked it lol. We both hadn’t really gotten into the online thing and were new to the online world of dating and managed to stumble across each other very early on. We met within a few days of talking, and it was pretty clear from the start there was something special here. My favourite thing about Dave is his Chivalry. He is a hopeless old-school romantic. On our first date, he came to my house to pick me up with flowers, rocking a black eye from footy, & brought his umbrella and a spare jacket for me out to dinner just in case. My first impression was this guy looks like a thug but is a complete softie lol.
When did you first realise that this was someone you’d like to spend the rest of your life with?
Monique — I was smitten from the start whereas Dave likes to play it cool, but straight after that first date, we were pretty much inseparable. So ill continue to tell me he was hooked on the first date too lol.
I knew early that Daves’s morals and values reflected my own and he had all the qualities I was looking for in a life partner. From the start, we were always on the same page about where we saw this relationship going. It was a definite cliché of ‘when you know you know’.
Was there a proposal? Tell us a little about it…
Monique — Dave recreated one of our first dates for the proposal. We went back to Palazzo Versace for a night where he proceeded to sweat as he waited for the bell boy to arrive with the bags with the ring in them, then wasted no time popping the question because he was well aware I was extremely onto him at that point. To this day I have never let Dave off the hook for not traditionally getting down on one knee when he asked, while he continues to complain about his busted knees from his league days being his excuse. (Dave retired from NRL and South Sydney Rabbitohs in 2017 after a decade-long career). We celebrated with champagne along the water as our youngest baby slept in the pram beside us.
What was one element you were happy to splurge on?
Monique — Dave and I were both on the same page when it came to spending the extra money on photography and videography. At the end of the day, the memories are what we will have to hold on to and we couldn’t have been more blown away by the quality Salt media provided. It’s so true how everyone says the day goes by so fast, so having the opportunity to sit and really take in all the beautiful words of the ceremony and speeches was really special. As a young family also just having so many beautiful moments with the kids caught on camera is something we really cherish.
