The quiet art of capturing real wedding emotion.
Based in Perth, Natasha of Natasha Raso Photography is known for capturing weddings with an intuitive, artful touch. Drawn to genuine emotion, soft natural light, and the quiet in-between moments, her approach centres on creating images that feel both timeless and deeply personal. With a calm presence that helps couples relax and simply be themselves, Natasha focuses on documenting the energy of the day as it naturally unfolds. In this Q&A, she shares how she balances authenticity with creative vision, the moments that still make her heart race on a wedding day, and the stories she hopes to keep telling through her lens.
What is the first thing you notice when you arrive at a wedding, and how does it shape your storytelling?
The first thing I notice is energy. How everyone is feeling and if the mood is a bit stressful, I find ways on how to swing the energy to being relaxed. Emotions show through images and it’s super important the energy is relaxed.

How do you balance capturing authentic, unscripted moments with your own creative vision?
I find that when my clients feel safe with me, authenticity comes through. I find gentle and slight guidance works better than overtaking completely. This is how you will get more natural images – the way they hold each other and look at each other will be more genuine. Â
What recent creative risk did you take that changed the way you photograph?
Playing with lights and shadows. This adds more drama to my images.

Which moments, big or small, tend to make your heart race on a wedding day?
I feel like the ceremony is always the part which makes your heart race. It’s the most important part and you want to make sure you capture this part perfectly for your client. I love how you can feel the energy shift straight after this part too. It’s when the couple is able to exhale and fully be themselves.
What part of your personality inevitably finds its way into your work?
I have been told my calm, relaxed nature is a massive help on a wedding day.

What excites you most about the current landscape of wedding photography?
I love that creativity is encouraged. As a creative person, being in a space that allows you to be paid for being creative is wild.
If you could shoot a wedding anywhere in the world tomorrow, where would it be and why?
Sicilia, Italy. Â
Being of Italian background, Italy is one of my favourite places in the world. When I was little, I used to watch The Godfather. I absolutely adored the Sicilian wedding captured in the first movie, a small town celebration with traditions. The dress, the veil, the music, the scenery. One of my favourite places to travel to is Sicily as well. It would honestly be a dream come true to capture a wedding in this beautiful part of the world.

What kinds of stories or emotions are you hoping to capture more of in the coming years?
I love getting to know my couples. How they met, their common interests and how they are with each other. I want that to show in my photography. I want to not only capture their important day but tell their story through my lens.
If your photography could be described as a song, film, or piece of art, what would it be?
So, I asked Chat GPT this one:
Claude Monet’s Woman with a Parasol – Madame Monet and Her Son.

What advice would you give couples when choosing a wedding photographer for their big day?
My advice would be to make sure they can see themselves in their chosen photographer’s images. Every photographer has their own vision and they should be chosen based on that over anything else.
I would also encourage them to meet with their photographer either by a coffee catch up or zoom to make sure they are a good fit and they can understand what’s most important to them on their wedding day.
