From Knot & Pop: Relaxed, thoughtful, intimate, considered and fun – Lindsay and Ben’s wedding day was a reflection of their loves and lives together, celebrating in the city where they first met.

As if foraged from the grounds, the main design for the wedding saw an abundance of flowers mix with grapes, rose-hips, blackberries, tomato vines and mint leaves. The invitation planted the seed of the idea with a flower seed packet Save the Date, and poster design main illustrative invite.

Drawing on their love of wine, wine bottles formed the signage, with the table plan appearing along a Grape Corridor with name tags hanging off vines. Guests walked through the Grape Corridor to find their table number, that then lead them into the dining setting that saw wooden tables dressed in vines, flowers, foraged fruits, tapered candles and coloured glassware.

How did you make your wedding about the two of you?

Our wedding planner Susie, from Knot & Pop, took the time to get to know us as a couple in order to tease out some themes for the day that were personal to us, and we also took inspiration from the incredibly beautiful Secret Herb Garden.

We wanted the day to be organic-feeling, intimate, and relatively informal. We both felt very strongly that the day belonged to all of our guests, not just to us as a couple, and we therefore spent a lot of time working to ensure that the day would be a wonderful experience for everyone.

We wanted a feeling of abundance and wildness with our flowers and foliage to create a feeling of nature “taking over”. The setting of the Secret Herb Garden – both the glasshouse filled with plants and herbs, and the beautiful surrounding land – married perfectly with this vision, which Susie interpreted beautifully as “let love grow”. This phrase inspired the overall theme of our day, and appeared on our wedding stationery and order of the day.

Every element of our stationary was completely bespoke and created for us by Alice Gabb, inspired by the “let love grow” theme. This included the paper for the cones for our rose petal confetti, an incredible paper table runner and a beautifully illustrated menu. Our save the dates were particularly cute – Alice designed four different seed packets which Knot & Pop then filled with seeds for four different seasonal flowers. Our invitations were printed on a gorgeous fold-out poster on which Alice had illustrated flowers and fruit that would feature on the day.

Our love of wine was reflected with the use of wine bottles for our wedding signage and also by guests being invited to walk through a corridor filled with grape vines on the way to dinner.  Guests’ seat numbers were hung from the vines for our guests to have fun finding.

We chose a beautiful single wooden dining table for our guests to sit at, as we felt that this would create intimacy and informality. Susie reflected my love of coloured glassware by featuring beautiful water glasses in a variety of autumnal colours.

The girls at Pyrus did an amazing job with our flowers inspired by our let love grow theme. They created an incredible organic installation over the dining table and wove passionflower vines into the backs of some of the chairs. Herbs (from the Secret Herb Garden) and vines on the dining table itself lent an organic foraged feel. It was so magical! It was hard to tell where the natural plants in the glasshouse ended and our flowers by Pyrus began, which was exactly what we wanted.
