Sarah — Having recently returned from a stint overseas, we now live in Auckland. I work for a leading New Zealand wine company and Rory has a background in finance and works for a commercial property fund manager.
Soon after meeting, I headed overseas for six months on a university exchange. On my return, Rory was at the airport to pick me up with a beautiful bouquet of flowers. We’ve been together ever since. Rory is smart, funny, and articulate but also laid-back. I’m so glad that there is someone like him in the world.
Rory — We dated for a while and lived together, but I really missed Sarah while travelling solo through Peru. It was probably then that I knew that I didn’t want to go through life without her. The proposal was well-planned but not greatly executed! We were travelling through a remote area of northern Spain and I had a great day planned—couples massages, followed by lunch and wine tasting—but I couldn’t seem to find the right moment and the wine-tasting glasses started adding up. I eventually found the courage to ask, although I’m sure I didn’t mention anything I had planned to say.
Sarah — Our vision for the wedding was fun and nothing too serious. We set the date for a long weekend so friends and family travelling to Waiheke Island could make a proper holiday of it. We were extremely fortunate that the sun was shining all weekend so we could spend time hanging out in the lead-up to our wedding day.
Rory — Music was super important to both of us and that ended up exceeding expectations—nice and chill early; party vibes later on, before finishing with a group singalong to a favourite song of ours by The National, the first band we saw together.
Sarah — A stand-out moment was arriving at the lodge in the afternoon and seeing the beautiful floral arrangements. Izzy and Lydia were an absolute pleasure to work with and created such an incredible atmosphere, both at the lodge and the restaurant, with their amazing style and design.
Rory —The only issue was when my best man couldn’t get one of the rings out of the box. Somehow it got stuck in the lid as he slid it open. After a few laughs, we eventually got it sorted.
Sarah — When it came to our outfits, it had to be Maggie Marilyn for the girls.I decided early on that I wanted to wear the Maggie Marilyn dinner jacket and was extremely fortunate to get my hands on a pair of the amazing Maggie Marilyn mules in my size. My dress took a little longer to decide on as Maggie has so many amazing styles. I went back and forth on a few, before settling on a bespoke dress in ivory silk. I love that all our outfits are styles that we can wear forever.
