Saskia + Liam by Keryn Sweeney

Our vision was always rooted in effortless elegance with a subtle Nancy Meyers influence.

Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love…

We’re both Sydney locals, although from opposite sides of the city. Saskia, 28, grew up closer to the city while Liam, 29, is from the suburbs. Today we’ve built a life together near Cronulla, where weekends are usually spent by the ocean, enjoying long lunches, walking our golden retriever Frankie, discovering new restaurants and planning our next trip.

Professionally, we’re both passionate about our careers, but it’s the everyday moments that mean the most to us. Morning coffees, cooking together, spontaneous date nights and travelling whenever we can have become the rituals that define our relationship.

We both share a love of beautiful design, architecture, film and interiors, particularly the timeless aesthetic of Nancy Meyers. That appreciation for warmth, storytelling and thoughtful details naturally became the inspiration behind our wedding weekend.

Our wedding wasn’t about recreating a movie, but about creating a feeling—one that was relaxed, elegant, welcoming and deeply personal. More than anything, we wanted our family and friends to leave feeling as though they’d stepped into our world for a few unforgettable days.

How/where/when did you meet – and what were your first impressions?

We met in what still feels like something straight out of a romantic comedy. Across a busy bar in Sydney, Saskia spotted Liam and pointed him out to her friends. Somehow, despite the crowd, he made his way over and introduced himself.

From that first conversation, everything felt incredibly easy. There was no awkwardness or trying too hard—it simply felt comfortable. We laughed for hours and left feeling like we’d known each other far longer than one evening.

Nine months later, the world shut down, and we moved in together just as lockdown began. While it wasn’t the way anyone imagined starting life together, it became one of the greatest gifts our relationship could have received. We spent months building routines, watching movies, cooking together and learning everything about each other without the distractions of everyday life.

That season cemented the foundation of our relationship and ultimately shaped the life we’ve built together today.

What styling and visual elements worked best for you?

Our vision was always rooted in effortless elegance with a subtle Nancy Meyers influence. We wanted guests to feel like they had stepped into a beautifully designed home rather than a traditional wedding.

Rosedale Farm became the perfect canvas. The property itself is breathtaking, allowing us to enhance rather than overpower the existing beauty.

Matt and the team at BYMAGNOLIA transformed every space with layered florals, soft textures and thoughtful styling that felt refined without ever feeling overdone. The floral installations were sculptural yet organic, creating an atmosphere that was both luxurious and inviting.

Small personal touches became some of our favourite details—from custom napkins and matchboxes featuring our golden retriever Frankie to Tommy’s Margaritas, vintage cars, candlelight and the soundtrack playing throughout the weekend.

Every element worked together to create the relaxed, cinematic atmosphere we’d imagined from the beginning.

What did you enjoy most about the planning process, and do you have any tips for couples starting their wedding planning journey?

The most rewarding part of planning was watching our vision slowly become reality. Once we found the right venue and creative team, every decision became much easier because everything was working toward the same feeling.

Our biggest advice is to stay true to what you genuinely love rather than following trends or worrying about what other people think a wedding should be.

Having a clear vision early saved us countless decisions later. It also meant every supplier understood exactly what we were trying to create.

We also recommend finishing the smaller details several months before the wedding. Doing this meant the final few weeks weren’t stressful—we could simply enjoy the anticipation.

Most importantly, remember your guests won’t remember how much you spent. They’ll remember how your wedding made them feel.

Tell us about your vendors. Were there any standout suppliers?

We genuinely couldn’t have asked for a better team.

Keryn Sweeney photographed the day with an editorial eye while somehow making everything feel incredibly natural. Her film photography added such softness and nostalgia to the final gallery.

Matt and the team at BYMAGNOLIA completely understood our vision from day one and elevated it beyond anything we could have imagined. Every floral installation and styling moment felt thoughtful, refined and completely immersive.

Hayley and Trisha from Studio Viel were the calm behind the entire weekend. They anticipated every need before we even realised it ourselves and allowed us to be fully present throughout the day.

Angus from Sommar Films created something that feels far more like a feature film than a wedding video. Every frame tells a story.

Lucy from By Lucy Weddings captured the energy of the day in a way we’ll treasure forever. Having a content creator was one of the best decisions we made.

Finally, Georgia and the team at Banksia Orange delivered exceptional food, drinks and service. We lost count of how many guests told us it was the best wedding meal they’d ever had.

Tell us about your main outfits.

I’d always imagined wearing a classic princess-style gown until I actually tried one on. While beautiful, it simply didn’t feel like me.

Everything changed when I found a lace halter gown at Aston Bridal. Originally intended to be my reception dress, the moment I paired it with a veil I burst into tears. It suddenly felt exactly right.

For the evening, I changed into a custom Nelder Jones gown inspired by vintage Hollywood glamour and ’90s minimalism, allowing me to dance comfortably while still feeling elegant.

Liam wore a timeless black double-breasted tuxedo from SuitSupply inspired by Ralph Lauren tailoring. It was classic, understated and perfectly suited the atmosphere we wanted to create.

Tell us about your wedding and engagement rings.

My engagement ring features a beautiful oval centre diamond.

One of the most emotional parts of the day, however, was wearing my grandmother’s ring. I’d admired it since I was a little girl, so having it with me on our wedding day made me feel incredibly connected to her.

Our wedding bands are beautifully simple, allowing both rings to remain something we’ll love wearing every day for decades to come.

What were one or two elements you were happy to spend more on?

Photography and videography were non-negotiable for us. Long after the flowers have faded and the music has stopped, these are what allow us to relive the weekend.

We also chose to invest in florals and styling because creating a beautiful atmosphere was incredibly important to us. Walking into each space and seeing our vision brought to life was one of the highlights of the weekend.

Finally, we wanted our guests to have an exceptional experience, so food, wine and entertainment became major priorities.

Was there a favourite moment?

There are so many moments we’ll treasure forever.

Walking down the aisle and seeing each other for the first time will always be unforgettable.

One of our most cherished memories, however, happened immediately after the ceremony. We slipped away for a quiet glass of champagne, sharing stories about our mornings and soaking in the reality that we’d just become husband and wife.

We’ll also never forget dancing to “The Way You Look Tonight” by Frank Sinatra—a playful nod to our golden retriever Frank—and seeing all of our favourite people together in one place.

What does being married mean to you?

Marriage feels less like the beginning of something new and more like choosing each other again with even greater intention.

It’s the promise that no matter what life brings, we’re building it together.

The rituals we treasure most aren’t grand gestures—they’re the everyday moments. Morning coffees, evening walks with Frankie, cooking dinner together, travelling, and always making time to reconnect after busy weeks.

Those small routines have become the foundation of our relationship, and we know they’ll continue to shape our marriage for many years to come.
