Scarlett + Rory by Sally Faith Photography

We kept everything quite classic and timeless

Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love…

We both work together in menswear, and fashion has been a big part of our lives for a long time. We had both worked in the industry before we met, which is partly why our paths crossed in London. At the time, neither of us realised that we actually grew up in nearby towns, something we only discovered later, despite meeting in such a big city.

After meeting in London, we’ve since moved a little north of the city, where we now live together with our two cats, who very much run the house. Working side by side has become a huge part of our everyday life, and we genuinely love what we do.

Outside of work, we share a lot of the same interests. We both love football, travelling and spending our time eating good food, whether that’s trying new places or cooking at home.

How/where/when did you meet – and what were your first impressions?

We met at a Focus Group for Converse in London. A mutual friend of ours worked for the brand, and when some of his colleagues were visiting from the US, they wanted to speak to young people in London who were interested in fashion. These kinds of fashion-related group sessions weren’t out of the ordinary for either of us, so neither of us went in expecting anything more than a free meal and an interesting conversation.

The focus group was held at Tramshed in East London, a restaurant that felt very fancy to us at the time. We sat around chatting, eating, and sharing our opinions when Rory sent his steak back. I remember thinking to myself, damn, what a diva, and having a quiet laugh about it.

What we couldn’t have known then was how significant that place would become. Now, Tramshed is only about 20 metres from the office we work at together, and we get to walk past the building every single day, a small, unexpected reminder of where everything began.

What styling and visual elements worked best for you? (could be things, the florals, particular hire products or your marquee, etc., something the stylist created or simply just the scenic beauty of your location or the existing design of your venue).

Styling and visual details were something we really cared about, as we both love stationery and graphic design. Designing all of our stationery ourselves was one of the parts of the process we relished most. We kept everything quite classic and timeless, using a traditional script font alongside a green and white colour scheme, which felt very natural and true to us.

The venue itself did so much of the work visually. St Albans Cathedral is so rich in history and character that it creates an incredible backdrop without needing to over-style it. The age of the building, the stone, and the sense of scale brought a real sense of atmosphere and occasion to the day.

We were also incredibly lucky with the weather. The sun was shining, which only added to the beauty of the setting and made everything feel warm, light, and celebratory. It all came together in a way that felt effortless and very “us.”

What did you enjoy most about the planning process, and do you have any tips for couples starting their wedding planning journey?

What we enjoyed most about the planning process was working together as a team. It’s such a personal experience, and we loved that it could be entirely ours. Because we have very similar tastes, decisions came quite naturally, and there wasn’t much compromising involved, which made the whole process feel collaborative rather than stressful.

One of the biggest things we learned was that you don’t need an unlimited budget to create something beautiful. We planned the wedding relatively on a budget, but with a lot of care, intention, and determination to source things ourselves. From design details to styling choices, we were really hands-on, which made everything feel more meaningful.

Our biggest tip for couples starting their planning journey would be to trust your own taste and vision. If you know what you love and you’re willing to put the time in, a classy, thoughtful, and expensive-looking wedding is absolutely achievable without overspending. Focus on what matters most to you, and everything else will fall into place.

Tell us about your vendors. Were there any standout suppliers you would like to make special mention of?

We were incredibly lucky with our vendors, and the day truly wouldn’t have been what it was without them. Sally, our photographer, captured the day perfectly. She understood our vision instantly and documented everything so naturally and beautifully. The images she created are memories we’ll cherish and enjoy looking back on forever.

Our custom tiramisu from Gabriella’s in Olney was another real highlight. It felt quintessential and added such a personal touch to the day. It was something a little different, and we loved that it reflected our tastes rather than following tradition.

The Hub in St Albans, our reception venue, was also a standout. They made everything feel completely seamless and genuinely understood the assignment from start to finish. The day itself was entirely stress-free, and that’s something we put down to having such amazing, thoughtful vendors who truly had our backs

Tell us about your main outfits, what was unique, and is there a story?

Both of our main outfits felt incredibly personal, and each had its own little story. My dress was actually the very first one I tried on, and I knew instantly it was the one. It was the Fortune dress by Maggie Sottero, very simple, with a dropped waist, and the name alone felt like a sign. I’ve always had a thing for being lucky, so it felt completely meant to be. The dress was ivory, which complemented my skin tone beautifully, especially as a pale redhead, and kept everything feeling soft and timeless.

I finished the look with a neck scarf that was custom-made by a local seamstress, Helen, whom Rory had used for years. She had never made one before, but once I sourced the fabric, she knew exactly what to do. It completed the dress perfectly.

Rory’s suit was bespoke by SuitSupply, and even that felt serendipitous. When he collected it, he was told that the lightweight Italian wool blend fabric had gone out of stock the day after he ordered it and was being discontinued, another “meant to be” moment. The suit was double-breasted, in a light brown tan with a subtle herringbone, and featured custom embroidery inside with our wedding date. He paired it with the Michael shoes by Paraboot, his absolute favourite. He already owned them in black and wore them constantly, so choosing them in brown felt like an obvious and very him decision.

Tell us about your wedding and engagement rings.

Our rings are incredibly meaningful to us, and each one carries its own story. My engagement ring was designed by Bella Clark, an Australian designer whose work I had loved for years. Rory worked closely with her to create the ring bespoke, which made it even more special. The design features two diamonds, two white sapphires, my birthstone for September, and four blue aquamarines, the birthstone for March, the month we started our relationship back in 2018. I already owned a signet ring by Bella, so knowing that Rory collaborated with her on something so personal meant the world to me.

My wedding band is an eternity ring that my dad gifted to my mum decades ago. Their relationship is something I look up to every day, so wearing something from their love story felt incredibly special. Serendipitously, it was also exactly what I would have chosen aesthetically.

Rory’s wedding band was sourced in Los Angeles. He knew he wanted a nugget-style ring, and we found the perfect one in the jewellery district. We spend a lot of time in LA and Southern California, a place that holds so many special memories for us, which made that moment feel even more meaningful.

What were one or two elements that were most important to you both that you were happy to spend a little more on? (food, photography, florals, the venue, your outfits?).

If we had to choose one or two elements we were happiest to invest a little more in, it would be the food and the décor. Both felt really important to us in creating a day that felt personal and memorable. We wanted the venue to feel like it had truly been touched by us, with our own mark on it, rather than feeling generic or over-styled.

The décor played a big role in that. From layout to styling details, we were intentional about how everything came together so it felt considered and reflective of who we are. The Hub was incredible in accommodating everything we asked for and made the whole process feel effortless. They were so open to our ideas and executed them in a way that felt seamless and premium.

Food was equally important. It was a chance to look after our guests properly and create a warm, generous atmosphere. Investing in these elements meant the day felt elevated but still very true to us, which was exactly what we wanted.

Was there a favourite moment (or two) that you will treasure always?

There are a couple of moments that we know we’ll treasure forever. The ceremony at St Albans Cathedral was incredibly special. The sun was shining through the stained glass, filling the space with colour and light, and it all felt so grand and overwhelming in the best possible way. The vows were something we both genuinely enjoyed, a moment when we were fully present. It felt precious, intimate, and deeply meaningful, despite the scale of the setting.

Once the ceremony was over and the party began, everything shifted. All of the pre-wedding nerves completely evaporated, and the rest of the day felt truly magical. There was a real sense of euphoria as we danced the night away, surrounded by the people we love most. It was carefree, joyful, and full of energy, the perfect contrast to the quiet emotion of the ceremony, and a feeling we’ll always hold onto.

What does being married mean to you, and are there any special rituals you have that you would like to share?

Being married feels incredibly natural to us. In many ways, it feels like we’ve belonged together since that focus group back in 2018, so marriage felt like a very natural next step in our relationship. At the same time, it carries a huge sense of magnitude and meaning. There’s something incredibly grounding about choosing each other in such a deliberate and public way.

We don’t have any formal rituals as such, but what feels special to us is the everyday commitment, moving through life as a team, sharing the small moments, and continuing to build something together. We’re so deeply thankful for the day we had and for the people we were able to share it with. It felt like a true reflection of us, our journey, and the life we’re creating, and that sense of gratitude is something we’ll carry with us into our marriage.
