SOPHIE + KAT by David Le Photography

Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love, what is unique about you and your relationship:

We are a same sex couple who have been in our love journey for 6 years now. Sophie is in the Education world and Kat is a Case Manager for ACC. We both love health and fitness and actually met in a Gym in Napier. Kat was the receptionist/PT and Sophie was the new gal on the block.

Sophie had the instant attraction to Kat and Kat was none the wiser. Sophie played detective for the year and did background checks on Kats working hours, love for animals, fav singer and her hobbies. Stalking paid off and Kat asked Sophie out on a date. The rest is history. We have both travelled the world together, living in China was one of our biggest adventures and then travelling all around Asia. We have two dogs which are treated like royalty and we love socialising and travelling around NZ. Sophies family are in New Plymouth so half our time is spent there. We are highly competitive and this brings a great flare to our relationship. Kat is the calm to Sophies storm and we find that we balance each other out perfectly.

Tell us about your special day, was there a specific theme or style? Tell us a little about the setting, the styling and some of your favourite details:

We wanted all dried florals- We got a local vendor to do the bouquets and then Sophie did the rest- centre pieces, arch pieces, bouquets and more. We loved the rustic and earthy colour tones- making sure we had lots of vintage colours, brass vases and toitoi! We also wanted a super chill wedding. St Georges transformed at night- lights through the trees, outdoor fire, loungers, outdoor bar and great indoor/outdoor flow from the D-Floor to the chill-out-zone outside. We loved that every space was different at our venue and guests didn’t know where they were going next. The vines added an amazing green touch and also shaded the area! Every space was full and the dance floor rocked for 3 hours.

Tell us about your main outfits:

Kat: Lace from head to toe, this dress was more than met the eye, very heavy and a long train. A modern take on Art Deco.

Sophie: Simple and elegant. A beaded top and a fitted slik bottom- with blush pink shoes peaking out at all times. Sophie changed into her Shona Joy dress for the reception and dancing!!

What were some of the most memorable/unique moments from the day:

Our first look was incredibly special. Kat waited for Sophie to be lead across the road by her twin- 1, 2 3 you may look! We both gasped at each other and couldn’t take our eyes of the others dress, make up and hair. Our wedding was very intimate- with just our closest people there to celebrate. The ceremony was raw and real and there was not a dry eye in sight. The vows were spoken straight from the heart and it was awesome to see everyone there that believes in us, doesn’t judge and just sees Love for Love.

Any advice for other couples planning to spend the rest of their lives together:

Don’t sweat the small stuff.. One day you will look back and think that the small things were the big things.
