Sophie Patricia

Effortless imagery for considered celebrations.

Sophie Patricia approaches weddings with a quiet confidence and a distinctly editorial eye, blending documentary instinct with a fashion-forward sensibility. Their work is thoughtful, emotive, and beautifully undone, capturing celebrations in a way that feels effortless yet deeply intentional. Drawn to connection over trends and experience over perfection, Sophie creates imagery that preserves not only how a day looked, but how it truly felt. In this Q&A, we explore the artistry behind their storytelling and the creative perspective shaping their enduring, soulful work.

How would you describe your photography style, and what do you hope couples feel when they look at their photos?

I describe my photography as editorial with a documentary feel. Importance placed on the real moments throughout the day, and capturing it from a fly on the wall perspective but adding that elevated editorial look.

How do you approach capturing a wedding day in a way that feels personal and true to each couple?

Simple. Getting to understand who my couples are, their values, and what’s important to them. Listening to what makes them tick, and equally what makes them feel uncomfortable, so we know how to treat them, and make them feel like we’re just old friends and a part of their day too.

How do you prepare for a wedding so you can fully understand a couple’s vision and bring it to life?

From the moment you book us, we start to develop a relationship. We may be sure to get to know each couple, what’s important to them and how they imagine their day looking. We have touch points through the planning process (through conversations, questionnaires, etc.) that really help us get to know who you are and what’s important to you. It allows us to capture the day in our style with your full vision in mind. All the most important parts you’ve mentioned, and more.

What do you feel is the biggest advantage for couples who choose to work with you?

They get to feel completely themselves. No performing. No awkwardness. No pressure to be anything other than wildly, beautifully human. Our biggest advantage is that couples don’t feel photographed; they feel held. Supported. Seen. We take the emotional weight off their shoulders so they can be present, and when that happens, the imagery becomes effortless and honest. That’s where the magic lives.

What moment from a past wedding has stayed with you and shaped the way you photograph celebrations today?

It’s rarely the grand moments, but rather it’s the quiet ones that linger. A groom pressing his forehead into his partner’s shoulder before the ceremony. A mum watching from the doorway, wiping away tears she didn’t expect. A dad, uncontrollably crying when he sees his daughter in her dress for the first time. Once, during a chaotic, joy-filled dance floor moment, I noticed a couple slip outside alone, just to breathe and hold hands for thirty seconds. That taught me everything.

Weddings aren’t just about what’s happening loudly; they’re about what’s happening softly. That’s what I’m always listening for now.

As Luis is both your husband and your videography partner, how does working together allow you to create a more complete and cohesive story for your couples?

We understand love and relationships. Not in theory, but in practice. We move through a wedding day intuitively, almost wordlessly, because we trust each other completely. There’s no ego, no stepping on toes, no competing for moments. Just two people who know how to read a room, anticipate emotion, and let a story unfold naturally. Luis knows what’s important to me, he knows how I work and vice versa. That shared rhythm means your photos and films feel like they belong together, a perfect combination that comes from joined hearts!

What do you feel sets your work apart?

Restraint. Intention. Emotional intelligence. We’re not chasing trends or forcing moments. We’re simply observing, waiting, and creating space for something real to happen. Our work sits somewhere between fashion and feeling. Elevated, but never cold. Artful, but deeply human. It’s imagery that doesn’t shout but stays with you for decades and generations to come.

What destinations are you hoping to shoot in over the next few years?

We are hoping to split our time between North America and Australia. We are very lucky to be a multiracial family – Luis is Mexican, and I am Australian. So we are blessed to be able to travel between the two freely! Mexico is so rich in colour and culture, and we are excited to begin shooting weddings there! We would LOVE some weddings in Canada too!

Being in Mexico, too, means we are very close to Europe! So fingers crossed for some stunning Spanish nuptials, Greek islands and French chateaus. A girl can dream!

What advice would you give to couples who are looking for the right photographer/videographer for their wedding day?

You want a team of creatives who truly deliver what you want. Think about what it means to YOU and how you imagine looking back on it in 30, 40, 50 years time. And ALWAYS chat to your vendors first. Make sure you vibe with them, as part of getting good moments is really dependent on whether you both like each other, and whether your team can get the best from you on the day too!
