Tash + Jake by Nikki McCrone

Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love, what is unique about you and your relationship:

I am a teacher at a wonderful primary school and I love laughing and being in a classroom of kids with no inhibitions or filters! Those students honestly keep me so grounded and remind me to really appreciate the little things in life. Kids don’t get caught up in the things that we do as adults and I have the best job.

I just have to remember to not use my teacher voice with Jacob! Jacob is a Fire Sprinkler Fitter. He is like a firefighter really but stops fires before they happen. He is a hero really. We both love good food, good wine (Bourbon for Jacob!) and good company! Jacob brings all the laugh to any party and I am clearly his biggest fan.

We met at a friends place and after laughing at his really bad jokes for a while, wining and dining at some really cool Melbourne cafes and restaurants, we knew we wanted this for the rest of our lives. Jacob is calm and logical and I am a bit of a stress head, who likes to plan everything. He can bring me back down and make me realise that plans can change and I can hit the accelerator and shuffle him along occasionally.

Tell us about your special day, was there a specific theme or style? Tell us a little about the setting, the styling and some of your favourite details:

When we were planning our special day, our main objective was to throw a huge PARTY! We envisaged a night where all of our loved ones were able to glam up, feel fabulous and be surrounded by delicious food and drinks. Our style was very relaxed, with soft colours in our styling and when we paired this with the ‘feel good vibes’ of The Post Office Hotel, we knew we had everything we needed.

We wanted a high energy night full of mingling, laughter, singing and AMAZING music that brought out those greatly missed dance moves after a year of lockdown here in Melbourne!

Tell us about your main outfits:

My dress honestly made me feel exactly how I thought I would feel on my wedding day. It was the very first one I ever tried on and I remember telling my mum that I didn’t want it to be that easy! I tried very hard to prolong the bridal appointments and try on as many different styles as I could but I was always comparing to this one. When I got into it on the morning of the wedding, it made me feel as though my mum was there with me, giving me a huge hug. We picked it together, toasted champagne to it together (at 10am!) and I am so grateful for that memory!

Jacob and his boys had one brief! Make sure the tailor agrees with what you pick! Don’t go rouge! Don’t let the boys wear a flannelette shirt. He actually did a great job!

What were some of the most memorable/unique moments from the day:

It rained ALL DAY! Literally all day! All of our plans changed, the ceremony changed, the first look location was flooded so that had to change. All those months of planning and they were all literally washed away.
I remember thinking about our first look for a long time. When we got there, Jacob was facing the other way singing ‘singing in the rain’ and I was laughing to myself. It was perfect, it was us and it exceeded all of our expectations.
Although this sounds like an absolute nightmare to couples planning their days right now, it was honestly the most liberating thing! With no plan, we were forced into the present moment and only the present moment. At each stop, we were so grateful some shelter, grateful for the laughter, grateful for the amazing photos that we got with the lighting of a rainy day and the generosity of strangers! We were welcomed into the amazing Fabiano Furniture shop for some incredible photos and Helen had props and umbrellas on hand!

Having our day this way alleviated a lot of our nerves, and we were in amazing hands with our photographer Nikki, who probably had 6 different plans in her head!

Any advice for other couples planning to spend the rest of their lives together:

Laugh! Don’t put too much pressure on yourselves and don’t get caught up on the small details when planning your special day. EVERYTHING completely changed on our day and I wouldn’t have it any other way!
I promise that when you think back on the day, you will only remember the faces of your family and friends and of course, your amazing wedding team (photographer, videographer, celebrant and venue coordinator!)
