Tearoadee + Nathan by Quint Photography

Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love, what is unique about you and your relationship:

Introducing now as Mr Nathan Azzopardi and Tearoadee Azzopardi, Nathan is 31 years old and I’m 34. We have a small family, which includes my thirteen-year-old son Romeo who lives and breathes basketball and hopes to one day play in the NBA, and our one-year-old French bulldog named Benny who is the king of the house.

I met Nathan a few years ago when I worked as a senior stylist at a local hair salon and Nathan had just started his apprenticeship. He was young, with a mullet and not really my type at all.  A few years later, my long-term relationship had ended but I was blessed with a son Romeo. At this point, Nathan and I had gotten to know each other and become friends, his mullet was gone, and his style had evolved too. We started hanging out and realized how much we had in common. Little did I know that 8 years later I would be marrying my best friend.

Nathan and I both work in the same industry. I’m a hairdresser and he’s a Barber. We both love to travel and love good food. If eating was a hobby, that would be our number one thing to do together. Nathan loves fishing and if he could he would be a fisherman. That’s his favourite thing in the world to do. It would even make him happier if I could wake up at 3 am and join him!

I appreciate fashion. I love seeing everyone’s individuality and we both love travelling. The world is amazing. It’s the greatest gift that you can give and share with one another. The culture, food and endless things to experience.

Being in Melbourne, AFL is dominant but he follows the NRL. He has followed Melbourne Storm since they started in 1998. Our relationship is unique because we’re each other’s best friend. We appreciate each other, compliment, motivate and most importantly we never try to change one another. We strive to never let each other down and always put each other first. Our love is our own.

Tell us about your special day, was there a specific theme or style? Tell us a little about the setting, the styling and some of your favourite details:

I’m a bohemian at heart, with a love for simple yet eclectic style. I know it sounds like a contradiction but it’s true. I wanted a modern dress but I also wanted the details that expressed my love of fashion and my free spirit.

When we first got engaged, I started researching dresses. As soon as I saw Ru De Seine that was it. The Bridal Atelier have their collections, so my best friend Geecel and I went to Prahran and I fell in love. Adelia Lune was the one. First day of looking and I locked it in! I took my mum for my fitting a weeks later.

We got to one week before the wedding and we had to postpone it due to Covid. Our original wedding date was April 4th 2020. We were devastated, who would have thought we’d be experiencing a pandemic, but our friends and family were so supportive.

Nathan’s father Mario, had come from Malta to attend the wedding and ended up being stuck here for a couple of weeks. Whilst we loved having him here and spending time together, it was bittersweet because it meant that on the actual day (Feb 6, 2021) he would not be able to attend due to the borders being closed. His physical presence was dearly missed but a surprise speech via video from him at the end of the night really brought the emotion out of everyone, there wasn’t a dry eye left in the room.

Nathan and I had the same vision of how we wanted our wedding to be. Intimate and Fun. The Good Shepherd Convent was the perfect place for us. It’s a small Chapel with a lot of history and character. When we saw it, we both looked at each other and said ‘love it’.

Nathan and I both love Autumn, the colours, the trees, and leaves and just the weather itself. I wanted my bridesmaids and best friends to be comfortable with what they wore but I also wanted them to dress how they would dress up if we were going to a party.

We also had so much fun doing our own make up. My good friend Aaron styled our hair beautifully. Simple and natural, which is what I asked for.

We had looked at a lot of venues online for our reception but we would always go back to The Craft and Co. It’s a simple brewery but with a party vibe venue. The food was outstanding and so were the staff! They were not only helpful but also very entertaining! We couldn’t have asked for more.

My talented friend Melinda designed our ‘Thank you cards’, our ‘Welcome’ sign and our invites. She did an amazing job creating something we both loved and which reflected us perfectly.

What were some of the most memorable/unique moments from the day:

Some of our favourite parts of the day and night were obvious. Seeing each other at the aisle and finally calling each other husband and wife!

The speeches from everyone that touched our hearts and made us all laugh. And my son Romeo’s speech just stole the show! it was a Mic drop moment at Nathan’s expense! Also having your son be a part of your wedding was pretty magical.

Any advice for other couples planning to spend the rest of their lives together:

Our advice to all the new couples is find some time throughout the night and just have a minute to yourselves, and make sure you eat! Enjoy what both of you have planned, look around and embrace every minute of it. We also both agreed on the importance of a really good Photographer and Videographer. It’s a must! When you look back, its true what they say, their work tells a story. We were blessed to have found them and are thankful for their amazing work. They were so chill, fun and so easy to work with!
