VANESSA + MICHAEL by Anne Paar

Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love, what is unique about you and your relationship…

We met 4 and a half years ago, through friends. Michael almost ran me over with his car the first time he saw me, and for some reason, I knew he was the one. We now have a handsome little boy called Arthur who is almost 2 and he is our pride and joy.

I (Vanessa) am an optical Dispenser and Michael works for Fonterra in operations. We both are quite creative people. I studied art, and do a bit of embroidery and fibre art in my spare time. Michael is a talented piper (bagpipes) and grew up doing crafts such as quilting and cross stitch. Michael is very much into his cars. Mainly BMW’s but enjoys mostly all European vehicles. We are an unusual couple due to our massive height difference, I’m 4’11 and he’s 6’4, so we’ve definitely heard all the jokes, mainly from our families. Together we are an incredible team, we just have always clicked perfectly and it’s really incredible being married to my best friend.

Tell us about your special day, was there a specific theme or style? Tell us a little about the setting, the styling and some of your favourite details…

There wasn’t one specific thing that inspired us. I had been looking on Pinterest for years, and I guess I had pinned so many different styles and themes to my board which was quite all over the place, but I loved that. Nothing matched but everything matched. There was no colour theme but it worked. I just wanted bright and cheerful. I was inspired by wild flowers and all the amazing colours which Yvette did an incredible job capturing.

Tell us about your main outfits:

Our outfit were very vintage inspired, bright and cheerful and just fun. My absolutely favourite part was all my accessories. My earrings were custom made by the amazing artist @ema.designs pressed dried pansies. The Burnt orange velvet shoes surprisingly picked up on all the warm colours in my bouquet and flower crown. I didn’t know that the colours were all going to match or clash until the day. We wanted the men to have just as much fun with their outfits too.

What were some of the most memorable/unique moments from the day?

Having our son right beside us, apart of our vows was such a beautiful part of our day. our venue was in the city centre, we had a real audience coming in and out of the venue, and walking around getting photos taken. It was really neat to put smiles on people’s faces who were just going about their every day activities. We made a great Choice going with a grazing table, everyone felt comfortable to mingle and talk to everyone rather than having set places to sit. We wrote our own cocktail menu, each cocktail was inspired by a moment in our relationship.
