Sicilian grandeur meets modern Art Déco in an editorial shaped by history, light and place.
Sicilian Modern Décò brings two distinct aesthetic languages together: the formal opulence of Art Déco, with its gold, deep forest greens, geometry and sense of drama, and the quieter, more organic grandeur of a historic Sicilian estate.
Photographed at Tenuta Cardinale in Catania, the editorial takes much of its character from the location itself. A historic citrus estate deeply connected to Sicily’s agricultural and aristocratic heritage, Tenuta Cardinale is a place of remarkable scale and atmosphere. At its heart stands a traditional palmento, a wine-pressing chamber with extraordinary architectural and acoustic character, surrounded by ancient citrus groves and monumental stone pines.

The estate also holds a singular place in Sicilian history. On 30 April 1985, HRH Prince Charles and Lady Diana chose Tenuta Cardinale as their first stop in Sicily, making it the only Sicilian location ever visited by Lady Diana. Now in its pre-opening phase as a luxury event destination, the estate was captured at a particularly interesting moment, poised between its storied past and the beginning of a new chapter.
Rather than imposing a decorative concept upon this setting, the creative direction responds to what is already there. Warm ivory, deep forest green, gold and amber are drawn directly from the landscape, from citrus blossom and dense greenery to ancient stone and the beautiful amber light that fills the palmento at dusk. The glamour of Art Déco is present, but interpreted with a lighter, more contemporary hand.

That balance is perhaps most apparent in the florals by Pantarhèi Wedding. Monumental botanical installations bring scale and drama to both the ceremony arch and tablescape, behaving almost as extensions of the architecture itself. At the table, ivory linen creates a quiet foundation for layers of greenery and sculptural botanical forms, while gold candlelight adds warmth and a subtle sense of occasion. The effect is abundant without feeling overly arranged, allowing the natural materials and history of the estate to remain very much part of the picture.

Bridal couture by Catania-based designer Marco Strano introduces another expression of the story’s dialogue between past and present. Sculptural in silhouette, the gown carries something of the glamour and confidence of Italian fashion’s golden age without attempting to recreate it. Instead, its clean, contemporary form feels striking against the texture and history of the estate, particularly as the story moves between the intimacy of its interiors and the openness of the surrounding landscape.
These two settings create much of the editorial’s rhythm. Inside the vaulted dining hall, warm candlelight and amber tones amplify the drama of the architecture. Outside, the ancient citrus grove changes the mood entirely, opening onto natural light, expansive sky and centuries-old trees. Moving between the two gives the story a sense of contrast: polished and organic, intimate and monumental, composed yet wonderfully connected to place.

With photography by Erica Brenci Studio and content by Sogni Cinematici, the creative team also brought together Giacomo Puglisi, Image Consultant, for hair and makeup; Seby Sorbello, Cooking Out, for catering and rentals; Pantarhèi Wedding for florals; and Marco Strano for bridal couture. Each element contributes to the same visual conversation, rather than competing with the remarkable setting around it.
The result is an editorial that feels unmistakably Sicilian while resisting nostalgia. There is grandeur here, but also restraint; history without imitation; and a sense of occasion that never overwhelms the raw beauty and patina of the estate. Intimate, monumental and unhurried, Sicilian Modern Décò is ultimately a love letter to Sicily at its most quietly extraordinary, and a portrait of Tenuta Cardinale on the threshold of its next chapter.
