Alexander + Laura by The Lopes Photography

We were friends for the 6 months before we got together but as soon as we kissed the rest was history.

Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love…

A: We both work in film so we have a good understanding of each other’s careers and can support one another through the hard times. Laura has unlimited energy and lives for sunshine and socialising. I am happiest up a mountain in any weather at all. But we both love food, cooking, wine and travel and are great at pushing each other out of our comfort zones.

How/where/when did you meet – and what were your first impressions?

Both: We worked together at a company where everyone was overworked and underpaid which meant that the staff all became close friends – a lot of them were at the wedding in fact which was amazing. We were friends for the 6 months before we got together but as soon as we kissed the rest was history.

When did you first realise that this was someone you’d like to spend the rest of your life with? Both: We clicked instantly and from the moment we got together things moved fast as we worked together and practically moved in straight away – which is ironic since we didn’t actually get married until 11 years later. It’s always felt like we were meant for each other.

Was there a proposal? Tell us a little about it…

A: In my head I had planned the proposal perfectly and Laura had no idea. We went for a long weekend on the Amalfi Coast and the idea was to do it at sunset right before we left for dinner which we were coincidentally getting very dressed up for. Looking back now I realise it probably couldn’t have been more obvious and by the time I actually asked her I think we were both just relieved my awkward performance was over. I’m also not sure she’s ever actually formally said yes either.

L: As soon as my friends found out Alex was whisking me away to Amalfi everyone was asking me if he was gonna FINALLY propose, I don’t think I could have faced going home if he didn’t. Being a producer he sent me a detailed schedule of the weekend I knew the exact 20 minute window he was gonna do it in. The pressure was off after that and we had a great trip!

Tell us about the vision you had for the mood or style of your wedding…

Both: Informal, fun and relaxed. We just want people to be comfortable. No rules on clothing as people always look best wearing what they love. We didn’t opt for a three course meal as we wanted everyone to share and make a mess and try different things. Everything was focused on making sure it was as casual as possible.

What was one element you were happy to splurge on?

Both: Food – we both love food so much and probably our only regret was that neither of us really ate much on the day as we were so caught up in it all. But we spent a lot of time deciding what to serve and loved hearing how much everyone enjoyed the food.

Did anything happen on your wedding day that you laugh about in hindsight (even if it was stressful at the time)?

Both: The wedding was set around the pool and we had joked a lot about how long it would be before someone went in. We didn’t bank on about 10 people ending up in there full clothed though and looking back it got quite raucous. But it happened at a time in the evening that made sense and just added to the fun.

Tell us about your main outfits, what was unique, is there a story?

A: Growing up, fashion was not something that I had much interest in but in recent years I’ve grown to enjoy getting dressed up so for me it was just a chance to have fun. My tailor was amazing and encouraged me to run with various elements of the fit that I never would have considered myself and the result was a suit that I have found reason to wear several times since as it makes me feel great any time I put it on. We didn’t plan our outfits around each other but somehow it felt like there was some sort of planning involved!
