Scotland-based wedding photographer Caro Weiss is known for her warm, emotive approach to documenting celebrations as they truly unfold. With an eye for the in-between moments, from quiet glances to full-bodied laughter, Caro captures weddings in a way that feels natural, honest, and deeply personal. Whether set against misty Highlands, windswept coastlines or intimate countryside venues, her work blends storytelling with a relaxed, unobtrusive presence.

In the Q&A below, Caro shares more about her creative process, what inspires her most, and the moments she loves capturing for couples.

How would you describe the feeling you want your images to hold, both in the moment and years later?

I want my images to feel like a memory you can step back into—both in the fleeting moments of your wedding day and decades later. In the moment, I aim to capture the raw joy, tenderness, and unscripted emotions that make your day uniquely yours. Years down the road, I want each photo to still evoke that same warmth, connection, and authenticity, so you can relive the laughter, the quiet glances, and the love that surrounded you as if it were happening all over again.

How do you approach capturing weddings and elopements in a way that feels natural rather than staged?

My approach is all about presence and connection. I focus on observing the moments as they unfold—the stolen glances, the laughter, the quiet emotions—while guiding couples in a way that feels intuitive rather than posed. I let the day’s natural rhythm lead the way, creating space for genuine interactions. The goal is that your images feel alive and true to who you are, preserving the intimacy and joy of your wedding or elopement without ever feeling staged.

What draws you most to documenting love stories in an honest, unscripted way?

What draws me most is the magic in the unscripted—the little glances, the laughter that comes out of nowhere, the quiet moments that feel just between two people. There’s something so real and human about love when it’s unposed, and I feel lucky to witness it. Capturing those moments honestly means creating images that aren’t just beautiful—they’re alive, full of feeling, and uniquely yours, the kind that make you smile years later as if it all just happened again.

What moments or details do you instinctively gravitate towards when photographing a celebration?

I chase the little sparks—the quiet giggles, hands held tight in a fleeting moment, or that tiny detail that makes your day uniquely yours. Those are the moments that make a wedding feel alive, and they’re honestly my favorite to capture.

What influences outside of weddings shape the way you see and create images?

Honestly, everything I love outside of weddings seeps into my work—books, films, travel, even little everyday moments. I notice light, color, movement, and emotion everywhere, and I bring that into the way I see couples and tell their story. Inspiration can come from anywhere, as long as it makes me feel something—and I want my images to make my couples feel that too.

What has surprised you most since working in the wedding and elopement space?

What’s surprised me most? How unique every single love story is. Even when couples think their day will be ‘just like everyone else’s,’ there’s always something unexpected, hilarious, tender, or heart-melting that makes it totally theirs. It’s those moments—big or tiny—that keep me inspired and remind me why I love this job so much.

What kinds of stories, settings or emotions are you hoping to capture more of in the coming years?

I want to keep catching the moments that feel totally alive—the quiet smiles, surprise giggles, hands held just so, and all the little details that tell a couples story. Natural settings, real emotions, and unscripted moments are what keep me excited to shoot.

What is one unexpected source of inspiration that often finds its way into your work?

I love finding inspiration in the small, unexpected moments—like the way light dances through a window, the curl of steam rising from a morning cup of coffee, or a glance that makes me stop and grin. Those tiny sparks somehow find their way into my work, helping me capture weddings that feel real, joyful, and full of life.

What keeps you creatively energised between shoots?

I would say, little everyday adventures—mooching around somewhere new, noticing light and color in random places, flipping through books or magazines, or listening to music that makes me feel something. I love soaking in inspiration wherever I can find it, and those small moments keep my eyes, heart, and camera ready for the next wedding or elopement.

What advice would you give to couples looking for a photographer whose work feels soulful, genuine and deeply personal?

My advice to them would be to look for a photographer who doesn’t just take pictures, but who notices the little moments, the emotions that happen in between, and really cares about telling your story. Ask yourself if their work makes you feel something, and if you can imagine them capturing your day in a way that’s honest, playful, and full of heart. The right photographer will make you feel comfortable, trust the process, and walk away with images that feel like you—not just a photoshoot.
