We finally arrived at the vineyard and I tried to discretely grab the ring box and put it in my pocket, BUT Rachel saw it and then proceeded to touch up her make-up in the car (in anticipation). We then walked towards the vineyard with Rachel laughing hysterically all the way, so I had to ask Rachel to stop laughing before I got down on one knee and the rest is history as they say.
We arrived at a small rocky beach and we began searching for interesting rocks to take with us, when Seb called out, “Hey I found a cool one over here!” He got down on one knee on the rocky beach and we both felt super nervous — even though we both knew what was coming!
After dinner on our final night, I knew something was on Scott’s mind, so when we got back to our Airbnb, I just said, “If you want to ask me, just ask. I don’t need a perfect moment.” He got down on one knee, I said yes, and it was actually really special.
We did hit it off but instantly became the best of friends up until the sweet age of seventeen where both we as well as the rest of our friends and family started to realise it was rather a unique “friendship”. We tried, we tested and we’ve never looked back since!
My memory & first impression of Liam will always be “who is this dead chatty, dreamy blue-eyed English guy that made it almost impossible for me to ignore” and clearly a part of me didn’t want to.
“Never Gonna Give You Up” by Rick Astley somehow managed to sneak onto the playlist as our first dance song. There were a few laughs and some closet Rick Astley fans rushing to the dancefloor from the crowd, however we managed to quickly change it back to the planned song “Sail Away” by David Gray which went down an absolute treat!
I was never one for big weddings so I knew pretty early on that I wanted something small that just focused on the two of us. We had talked about taking a trip to Spain before the pandemic hit and one day walking to breakfast we came up with the idea of finally taking that trip and eloping while we were there!
We wanted a big party and didn’t want to bore our guests with a slow first dance so we actually snuck away for a private first dance as the sun was setting. It was just Hannah, myself, our photographer and a little handheld speaker, tucked away in a quiet corner of the property.
We have always envisioned our wedding to be a mix of the two cultures we have been brought up in, both Kiwi and Sri Lankan. Although a traditional kiwi-styled ceremony, we incorporated cultural touches such as our bridesmaids wearing sarees and having a traditional Sri Lankan oil lamp ceremony and Sri Lankan dancers at the reception!
Kyle got two black eyes at his stag do the weekend before the wedding. There wasn’t enough time for them to heal fully so he had to wear some heavy-duty concealer on the day!
I was Greg’s first and last internet date, man was he lucky HA!! He scared me a bit, he almost killed me in the first 5 mins.. that’s a good story to tell the kids.
The skies opened and started pouring rain a few minutes before the start of our ceremony which could be seen from inside in the ceremony space. This dramatic weather combined with the sounds of our string quartet created a setting that really matched our heightened emotions as we prepared to be officially married.
