Emma + Inígo Welcome Dinner by Joshua Woodland

Our venue really set the tone for our wedding.

EMMA —— We’ve been together almost seven years and currently call Santa Monica, California our home. With roots spanning Palo Alto, Mexico City and Miami, we bring diverse perspectives to our shared life. I work in marketing and Iñigo works in design and art. Our shared passions include exploring art galleries, visiting design showrooms and embarking on local and international adventures. We met through a mutual friend but didn’t start dating until years later. We reconnected while living in Los Angeles, where we both coincidentally relocated post-grad. My first impression of Iñigo was that he was really kind and confident. He was super engaging, inquisitive and warm. I felt at ease with him immediately.

IÑIGO —— Aside from being really beautiful, I felt at ease with Emma when I first met her and felt like I’d known her for a long time. She was warm, curious and always diverting attention away from herself, which I found surprising. These are all qualities that have remained true to this day and some of the many things I love about her.

EMMA —— Iñigo proposed while we were on a family trip in Japan. It was a total surprise. We were visiting a gallery on Naoshima, an incredible small island off the coast of Japan, known for its contemporary art, architecture, and sculpture, when Iñigo got down on one knee. The moment was made even more special by the presence of my sisters and grandfather in the distance. My grandfather was the only one in on the secret. Iñigo’s planning and execution were flawless, creating a surreal and unforgettable experience.

Our venue really set the tone for our wedding. This 19th-century Sicilian farm-estate-turned-boutique-hotel struck the perfect balance between rustic charm and modern elegance. Having all our guests stay on the property made it even more special.

IÑIGO —— We underestimated how much our guests wanted to party! We had a small wedding and thought everyone would be ready to wind down by midnight, but they wanted to keep going with an impromptu pool party. The water was freezing, but that didn’t stop people from jumping in. We brought out leftover wedding cake for late-night poolside snacking. It was totally unplanned, a bit chaotic and absolutely perfect.

EMMA —— For the rehearsal dinner, I wanted to wear something other than white that I’d be excited to wear again. I went for a pink Cult Gaia dress. After trying on four lovely dresses, the stylist at Loho Bride pulled one last gown, one I wouldn’t have chosen myself. The moment I put it on, I knew it was ‘the one’. Its simplicity, coupled with feminine touches such as a corset bodice and delicate lace, perfectly embodied the elegance I envisioned for our day.
