Gemma + Druw by Hill Collective

The vibe of the wedding was: Modern, Romantic, Glam with shades of cream, blush pinks, sage greens and champagne. The inside of the venue was very glam with crystal chandeliers, gold and gorgeous waterfront views.

Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love..

Gemma – I am a primary school teacher in Auckland. I grew up in Wellington. I love trying new restaurants and I love spending time with my friends and family. I am a lover of F45 and I love netball. I enjoy visiting new places and going on new adventures. I do love a glass of rose and a cheese platter with friends too!

Druw – I am a plumber in Auckland but born and bred in Wellington. I enjoy renovating houses and exploring Auckland. I enjoy good food and have enjoyed trying some new restaurants in Auckland. I enjoy watching the rugby and having a beer with my mates.

How/where/when did you meet – and what were your first impressions?

Gemma – I knew Druw through my brother as they were good friends and I always fancied him!  My first impressions were, that he was very handsome and very handy!

Druw – I always knew Todd’s sister and I always fancied her too. I did think she talked too much though!

When did you first realise that this was someone you’d like to spend the rest of your life with?

Gemma – I always knew that the woman who got to marry Druw would be a lucky woman, not realising it would be me but I always hoped it would be! I realised the moment we started to connect, 3 years ago. We spoke about our goals and plans and everything just fitted into place.

Druw – I realised pretty quickly she’d be someone I’d want to spend the rest of my life with. She was loving, family orientated and ambitious.

Was there a proposal? Tell us a little about it…

Gemma – We picked my engagement ring while travelling around Europe in 2022. We found the engagement ring in the city of York at Bradleys Jewellers. It was such an exciting time, celebrating in secret and only telling our parents that we found a ring. We had to wait two months for it to arrive back in NZ (after being resized). I actually had no idea that it arrived. My Mum, Dad and Brother were in on the plan. It arrived while I was on school holidays and he proposed on Saturday the 8th of October 2022 on Waikanae Beach on a beautiful sunny day. We were all walking on the beach, Dad getting lots of photos and then all of a sudden, Druw drops a knee and I was just so excited, surprised and I couldn’t believe the ring had arrived! Even though I knew it was going to happen at some point, I didn’t know it was going to be on this day. It was the most exciting time of my life. I had the same feeling the day we picked it in York and I was wearing it in the Jewellers while we were drinking champagne. I didn’t want to take it off and I remember thinking, I can’t wait for the day I can wear it every day.
