We’ve known each other forever, we grew up together, each the youngest of three, it was a bit of a surprise for everyone!
Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love…
Kate: I love my family and friends and our little Whippet, Wally. I’m a teacher, but I am having a break at the moment and travelling the world.
Ben: I fancy myself as an outdoor adventure guy, that really doesn’t get out that often. I like to try and help people. I love to eat, to cook, and to learn interesting stuff. I don’t actually do much at the moment, but I’m passionate about hospitality work and keen to pursue a career in the industry.
Was there a proposal? Tell us a little about it…
Ben: A proposal of sorts. On a drive over to Merimbula we found the ad for ‘a gathered few’ and we spent the drive chatting things over. We hadn’t thought much about getting married before and it just seemed like perfect timing. It was more of a ‘mutual agreement’!
Tell us about the vision you had for the mood or style of your wedding…
Kate: To be honest, we completely trusted Jas and Dez (our photographer and florist) to create a ceremony that would be amazing. Everything that Jas and Dezley are involved in is beautiful. We knew it was going to be a beautiful Autumn day in Tumbarumba (my hometown), we had our two witnesses and we’d organised a Chinese banquet with family to break the news afterwards. If anything, the mood of the day was to ‘keep things simple’.
It ended up being the most ordinary day, with an extraordinary setting for the ceremony. The flowers were beautiful, the afternoon sun was streaming into the chapel and Jas absolutely captured the beauty.
Did anything happen on your wedding day that you laugh about in hindsight (even if it was stressful at the time)?
Kate: We were a little bit stressed about how our families and friends would react when we shared the news! Some family members knew about us eloping but some didn’t.
Everyone was so excited and happy for us in the end. It’s ended up that people’s reactions have become really special memories for us.
