I am a residential interior designer from Melbourne and Karl is a real estate debt finance director. We now have two very young children and our time is completely dedicated to them. In a past life we loved to travel and get out and about in Melbourne.
How/where/when did you meet – and what were your first impressions?
We met in late 2019 on Hinge. For both of us, it was very serious from the start. I had moved into Karl’s house by March 2020 and then covid really started to become serious. So we went into lockdown for the next two years!
My first impressions of Karl were that he was extremely engaging and engaged and I could tell he was smart, compassionate and generous.
My first impression of Katie is that she was One of the most vivacious and engaging people I had met, with an ability to make me feel like I was the only person in the room. Truly beautiful with an elegant sense of style, and enduring attraction
When did you first realise that this was someone you’d like to spend the rest of your life with?
Katie – by the end of the first week!
Karl – When Katie instantly bonded with my family and instantly earned a place in their hearts really reinforced my own opinion that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with her.
Was there a proposal? Tell us a little about it…
Karl had initially planned to propose in July 2020, a few months after the meeting. He had planned a getaway to regional Victoria. Unfortunately, that was cancelled due to Melbourne’s covid lockdowns. For some reason, I was very upset about that trip being cancelled (we got used to it after two years!), because I think I knew he might propose. I didn’t know until later that I was right. The actual proposal happened in November 2020 on the morning we went to pick up our puppy labrador Willow. He bent down at the side of the bed and I was in complete shock. It was a very emotional and overwhelming day.
Most of our family live interstate and overseas so unfortunately we had one false start with the wedding which had to be cancelled due to lockdowns. We finally made it in November 2022.
Tell us about your main outfits, what was unique, is there a story?
I was actually 4.5 months pregnant with my little girl Olive (born 20.04.23) on our wedding day. When I designed my dress with Tania I was actually going to be six weeks postpartum with Charlie (for the first wedding that was postponed due to covid), so I knew I was going to need something flattering. As it turned out the design also worked for a 4.5-month belly! I knew I wanted something structured and strong. I had a concept and Tania executed it brilliantly and patiently, altering it up until 2 days before to accommodate my growing belly.
Karl’s oatmeal linen suit complemented the natural, neutral vibe beautifully and we wanted something summery and more relaxed than a traditional tux to go with the garden party feel.
