Real Wedding: Emily + Tate – Photography by Jordan Voth

Tate and I lived in a small town with rival high schools so we crossed paths, but never met properly until I went off to school in Seattle. After I left, he discovered my MySpace profile and pursued me. Romantic, I know!

We have the ability to completely annoy each other in one moment, and then be totally, head over heels in love the next. We know exactly how to make each other laugh and cheer each other up when nobody else can. I had always wanted to go to Santorini since I was young. I had been to so many countries already, but nothing appealed to me quite like Santorini. Tate also wanted a more intimate and adventurous wedding experience. The thought of planning an extravagant wedding back in the United States sounded like a lot of work and stress so we decided on a destination wedding where we could relax and make it an adventure. The company we booked through in Greece did all of the work and planning, so we basically just had to show up. Everything about the wedding was simple, to tie in with our beautiful surroundings. I loved how white, clean, and fresh everything was. It accentuated the view behind us even more. I fell in love with my Grace Loves Lace dress years and years ago. I didn’t even get to try it on until it arrived in the mail three weeks before the wedding! It is a very boho style dress, with lace underlay, and chiffon pieces that caught the breeze, adding to the romance of the day. Just about everything on our wedding day went to plan. We prepared ourselves for the worst, and were open to anything that came our way, and an air traffic control strike in Greece that almost prevented our videographer and my younger brother from attending the ceremony, but they made it in time. My advice to other couples would be to make your day truly yours. While not everyone was initially enthusiastic about a destination wedding, Tate and I knew in our hearts it was what we truly wanted, so we did it. Also, just let the day happen. Not everything will be perfect and as you planned it, but if you let those moments just pass without worrying, and continue to enjoy yourself, you will realize that even the most imperfect moments made your day perfect in the end.
