Sarah + Hugh by Nina Wernicke

We are both professionals in the corporate world who find our creative outlet in food and cooking.

Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love….

We love entertaining friends and family by hosting long lunches and boozy dinners and knew that we wanted our wedding day to be an extension of that

How/where/when did you meet – and what were your first impressions?

We met in London with our first date being in Soho. Sarah is Australian and I grew up mostly in Scotland so we were both fairly new to the city. We were meant to catch up over one drink however we ended up spending hours together laughing and talking before being asked to leave because the bar was closing! That was the start of a lot of exploring around London and discovering more about the city we grew to love so much.

When did you first realise that this was someone you’d like to spend the rest of your life with?

About 6 months into our relationship, Covid-19 hit and we decided to move to temporary accommodation and live together while isolation rules were in place. It was definitely a make-or-break situation and I’m very happy to say that the rest is history!

Was there a proposal? Tell us a little about it…

I proposed to Sarah while we were holidaying on an island in Italy called Ischia. It was the second last day of our 2 week holiday and we were planning to go to a family-run beach club on the other side of the island to our hotel. That morning we realised the car we rented had a flat battery because we left the lights on! After a few stressful hours, we made it to the beach club which was virtually isolated and the perfect location for such a special and private moment for us both

Tell us about the vision you had for the mood or style of your wedding…

We really wanted to make sure our guests were looked after at our wedding. Every moment was planned with the guest experience front of mind. Hugh can be quite traditional, while I tend to be more contemporary with my style and I knew we wanted to blend them together.
