Matt is a landscape architect and Sarah is in marketing. We both are very passionate and driven – we enjoy working hard, but also enjoy our downtime together.
Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love…
Outside of work we enjoy a slower pace and taking things as they come. We love trying new things, in particular restaurants, bars and the arts (music, galleries, performances, etc). We also enjoy the simple things like good coffee and long walks, taking in our surroundings, something which we adopted during Covid and have kept doing since.
We are yin and yang, and whilst different in many ways, we are also very similar. We balance each other, and are one another’s biggest cheerleaders. We make each other better in a million ways and are truly best friends. Getting married for us, was about making ‘us’ our own family/union.
How/where/when did you meet – and what were your first impressions?
We met at work. There was a mutual attraction, but more so we were impressed by one another.
Sarah – I could instantly tell that Matt was a really nice person, but he also had inner strength, and charisma, and he was also very good at his job.
Matt – I was immediately impressed by Sarah’s strength and tenacity. I could instantly see that she was a passionate and driven person. I also thought she was cute!
When did you first realise that this was someone you’d like to spend the rest of your life with?
Hard to describe, but we just got each other. We just felt comfortable and that we could 100% just be ourselves with one another. It was just an unspoken ‘we know’.
Was there a proposal? Tell us a little about it…
Matt – there had been many hints – I knew it was time. I organised drinks one Friday night at a nice bar.
Fun fact, and a complete coincidence – the proposal was on 13/01/23 and the wedding was on 13/05/23. Thirteen is lucky for us!
Tell us about the vision you had for the mood or style of your wedding…
It needed to be us. Down to earth but refined (if that’s a thing). It was all about being an intimate event that reflected us. It needed to be small and low-key but with a focus on the detail. We live in Fitzroy, love Melbourne and what makes Melbourne Melbourne – good food, wine and great architecture. We wanted the reception in a beautiful space with character and charm (heritage). We wanted it to be small and intimate – we invited 35 people and only 5 family members. It needed to be a party that reflected us!
Tell us about your main outfits, what was unique, is there a story?
Both of us wanted something a little different, but completely us.
Sarah – I found my second outfit and was planning to wear it as my main outfit, then I stumbled upon Mia Atelier on our photographer’s website and just loved her work. She had an off-the-rack dress on her website that I knew was my dream dress as soon as I saw it.
Matt – I have been a long-time patron of Oscar Hunt and have had many suits made by them over many years. I knew that they would create something amazing for me. When they suggested s red velvet suit jacket, I didn’t hesitate to say yes.
