Bryony + Theodore by Gillan Keough Photography

Like many modern-day fairy tales, ours started in the virtual world. When we first met, we didn’t know it at the time, but we lived within a stone’s throw from each other.

Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love…

Theodore — Bry and I grew up in different worlds and ran in different circles. We both grew up in Sydney, but refreshingly; there was no overlap in our lives. Bry works in Health, and I work in banking, we had no mutual friends before we met, and we both had very different childhoods.  Irrespective of that, we see the world through the same lens and share the same moral beliefs and values. We love that we can be goofy with each other and give each other the freedom and space to grow.

How/where/when did you meet – and what were your first impressions?

Theodore — Our first date was a walk around our local bay (Bry’s preferred option and quick exit strategy had I been a catfish). Bry and I had been locked in a fierce discussion about who knew the best local places for dessert, so I turned up on with numerous desserts to settle the debate.

Bryony â€”I guess you can have your cake and eat it too.

When did you first realise that this was someone you’d like to spend the rest of your life with?

Bryony â€” I can’t think of a specific lightbulb moment but I vividly recall on our first date getting lost in conversation with Theo, there was this familiarity as if somehow, we’d already spent a lifetime together.

Theodore — my realisation was when I watched Bry interact with my family. The way they love each other and interact each other is how I knew my family was complete.

Was there a proposal? Tell us a little about it…

Theodore — We didn’t have a big official proposal per se. We sat down and talked about how we wanted to get married, and then went ahead and started planning and booking it. We are both a bit laid back and low-key about things and intrinsically we knew being married was more important to us than getting married if that makes sense.

We booked the big-ticket items in December, and then told our parents on Christmas Day that we were getting married in March so they just went with it. After they got over the initial shock, they were pretty excited for us.

When Bry’s ring was ready, I still did pop the question, but there was definitely more humour than romance involved.

Tell us about the vision you had for the mood or style of your wedding…

We wanted a laid-back and intimate wedding with little touches that spoke to us. What we envisaged was the perfectly peaceful feeling of having a really good catch-up with all your best friends over a great meal, on a day when the weather really turns it on to show off for anyone visiting. We intentionally had a short lead time to avoid a long drawn-out planning process and the stress that comes with it.

Theodore — Decoratively, the location spoke for itself in having a relaxed coastal feeling, but there were little easter eggs that we included. Bry’s vision for the flower arrangements included peppercorn cuttings that reminded her of her favourite tree at her family home, and olive cuttings that reminded her of my Greek family after she visited my parent’s birthplace on our holiday last year.

Bryony — Our table arrangements also had little Greek motifs as well, marble table markers, and stylised Greek eye symbols on the place cards. Theo’s mum also made a beautifully intricate traditional cake that featured on our centrepiece
