Fleur + Tim by Danelle Bohane

I’m a sales and marketing manager, while Tim works for his family’s alcohol distribution company, so basically we both like to talk a lot and we have expensive taste in champagne. As well as dining out, we love to stay home and throw dinner parties – our house is never quiet!

Tim’s a trained chef and I’m a baker; you could say we balance each other out in life and in the kitchen. It was our mutual friends and mutual love of food and wine that brought us together. Tim’s reputation preceded him – I’d heard a lot about this lovely guy who had a knack of getting a party started. Tim claims all he remembers of our first meeting is my leather jacket – apparently it lent me an air of coolness. Unbeknownst to him, I had borrowed it from a friend… We began to spend so much together – trying out new restaurants and bars – that love came organically.

We make each other laugh like no one else can, and have a solid foundation of mutual respect. I’m big on birthdays, it’s more a birth month really, so of course Tim chose then to propose. We were temporarily living at his family’s beach house in Tindalls Bay, and while he popped to the village to grab coffees I was supposed to get dressed and ready the dogs for a beach walk – instead I called a girlfriend and was still in bed when he got home.

It was on that walk that he’d been going to ask me. He quickly changed tactics and I found myself standing on the front deck that overlooks the bay, blindfolded. When I opened my eyes I saw Tim on one knee. He’d barely got the words out, before I was sobbing YES.

Back in 2019 Tim and I were lucky enough to spend a summer in Europe and if we could return to anywhere it would be the island of Capri, so finding a Coromandel wedding location on the side of a cliff overlooking clear waters felt like a sign.

We decided on a long Italian lunch. Amy and the team from Blank Canvas served six courses from a truck in the middle of nowhere – we still have people talking about the lasagne! Our bartendress Katy was constantly shaking, stirring and pouring a limoncello spritz or espresso martini. The mood was electric. The only little glitch was the champagne tower – due to the wind we had to move the glasses inside, but it ended up close to the bar, the busiest spot in the marquee… All I remember is hearing an awful crash and turning to see a pile of broken glass. Funnily enough, almost no one noticed.

I’ve always surrounded myself with flowers, so I knew they had to be an integral part of our day. We discovered Floral Stylist (thanks to the TJ gram). Our location was a large open field and the floral standout was a hand-planted meadow of flowers scattered around our ceremony. One of our many songs was Wildflowers by Tom Petty. I love that we were able to create the scene and capture the emotion of the lyrics.
