Nick always has a way of knowing things way before I do. He told me pretty early on that he would marry me – and like most things – he was right.
How/where/when did you meet – and what were your first impressions?
Hope — We first met at a Disclosure concert where I actually arrived with another date! Nick immediately caught my attention with his piercing eyes and calm confident demeanour. We became each other’s rock fairly early on in our friendship and soon become inseparable. So when we eventually announced we had started dating our friends and family were relieved we had finally given in to the chemistry that they all had seen for years.
Nick — She was undeniably beautiful and vivacious as hell. I knew from the moment I met her she was going to be in absolute trouble.
Was there a proposal? Tell us a little about it…
Hope — It was my birthday. I had noticed he was being a little secretive in the lead-up but I honestly thought it was all to do with me turning 29! He surprised me with a getaway trip to Pauanui which holds a special place in my heart. We spent the day on the beach in perfect sunny weather followed by some gins and a cheeseboard back at our campground. I went to pop some champagne but he insisted on us going and drinking the bottle back down on the beach – so off we went. We had the entire beach to ourselves and before I could comprehend what was happening he was down on one knee.
Tell us about the vision you had for the mood or style of your wedding…
Hope — We wanted the day to feel elegant and timeless but mostly fun! We wanted our people and our story to be the main feature of the day so we really tried to not get caught up in what was trending and just made decisions on what felt organic to us.
What was one element you were happy to splurge on?
Our photographer/Videographer! We wanted to ensure the day was captured in a unique yet timeless way so when we came across Julia and Cam’s work we just had to book them!
Did anything happen on your wedding day that you laugh about in hindsight (even if it was stressful at the time)?
So many things! Our cake showed up completely different to what we had requested so much so we couldn’t stop laughing when we were cutting it!
