Pip + Tyler by Time With Alex

Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love…

Pip: I absolutely love to cook, bake and be creative. You’ll always find me in the kitchen creating recipes from scratch to share with my family and friends. I am currently finishing off my Floristry Certificate with the hopes of creating beautiful arrangements for other couples. If I’m not in the kitchen or being creative, I’ll be spending time with Tyler and our dog Benji. Each weekend you’ll find us out for walks and grabbing a coffee.

Tyler: I am in the military and work in cybersecurity, before that I worked as an underground miner and spent time in the explosives team; I love computers, programming, hacking, gaming and all of the above. I also love sports, such as football, snowboarding, and outdoor activities. I am a competitive powerlifter and rank highly in Australia. I do not fit the stereotypes for any of the things I enjoy doing and it’s what I love about it as well. I love spending time with my family and friends, I have a small circle of family and friends so I hold those in my circle close and would do anything for them.

How/where/when did you meet – and what were your first impressions?

We met at the end of year 11 through a friend and have been together ever since!

When did you first realise that this was someone you’d like to spend the rest of your life with?

I think we both knew pretty early on but we’re aware that we were very young!

Was there a proposal? Tell us a little about it…

For the proposal, Tyler had planned to go to NZ but COVID happened.

We went for a bush walk with the dog and we had planned to take some photos once we reached the top of the hill. Tyler suggested he take a video so he could just take a screenshot afterwards. He told me to look at Benji’s collar and written on the name tag was “will you marry dad?”  I was in complete shock and didn’t say anything for a few minutes!

Tell us about the vision you had for the mood or style of your wedding…

We envision the day to be relaxed and filled with laughter.

Hopefully the venue will give off a European summer vibe. We would like people to feel as though they have travelled without really doing so. A day out of the “COVID norm”.

What was one element you were happy to splurge on?

The photography was at the top of our list. We don’t have many photos together, so to go out and spend the money will forever be the best decision we made. Alex was absolutely wonderful and the images turned out better than we ever could have expected.

Did anything happen on your wedding day that you laugh about in hindsight (even if it was stressful at the time)?

Tyler: I was completely unbothered about the entire wedding leading up to it and thought I would be okay, I heard stories of how my dad was and thought “Nah I’ll be fine”. The day of the wedding I woke up and the stress was something I’ve never felt, I wanted to just steal pip and run away and do it in private. I was also the most emotional person on the day, I don’t think I stopped crying. I am not one to cry or express much emotion so this was a side of me no one had ever really seen.

Pip: I am usually the one who will cry at the drop of a hat, but on the day you couldn’t wipe the smile off my face. I only shed a few tears during the vows and first dance but it was quickly replaced with a gigantic smile and lots of laughter.

Tell us about your main outfits, what was unique, is there a story?

Tyler: I wore a beige linen suit, I wanted the colour to match the day I pictured; being bright and sunny. I chose the linen not only for the weather as that time of year is quite hot but also so I could provide alternate use cases to wear the suit for myself and groomsmen, I wanted to buy a good suit that they could wear again and style accordingly to the occasion.

Pip: I initially went in with a very clear idea of what I wanted my dress to look like. I wanted a plain dress with statement sleeves. Absolutely no lace! In saying that, I had seen my dress on Instagram a few months before and was absolutely taken with it. Once I found out that my dress boutique, Mrs Fray, was going to have a trunk show which included the Vivienne gown, I knew I had to make a booking. As soon as I put it on, I felt comfortable and completely myself. The sleeves on the dress are extremely similar to the sleeves the bridesmaid’s wore at my mum and dad’s wedding. It was a nice little nod to them to have that incorporated.

For the shoes, I had always pictured wearing a coloured shoe. My shoes were a pink velvet which were designed by Ashleigh Lim and I purchased them through Mrs Fray.

I wore my late grandmother’s engagement ring on my right hand to include her in the day. As my grandparents couldn’t be there due to border restrictions, I wanted to ensure my grandparents were included in some way. My earrings were a present from Tyler a few years before.
