Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love, what is unique about you and your relationship:
Blair is a plumber by trade & a lover of Rugby. He was born & raised in Far North NZ. I am a receptionist who loves to live a relaxed low key life & I was born & raised in Newcastle NSW. We bought a house together 2 years ago & have spent pretty much every weekend over those 2 years working on our never ending renovations!
When we have spare time we love spending it outdoors generally four wheel driving, with our family or with our 2 beautiful dogs who we adore! We also love escaping over to Blair’s beautiful home in NZ as often as we can to spend time with his family.
Tell us about your special day, was there a specific theme or style? Tell us a little about the setting, the styling and some of your favourite details:
We had planned our big day with hopes that Blair’s family could make it over from NZ however that unfortunately wasn’t able to happen. Thankfully, Blair’s 2 brothers live in Sydney & they were able to make it for the big day with their families & partners. I ended up just having my immediate family on the day. I felt terrible & guilty the whole time leading up to the day knowing I was able to have my whole immediate family whilst Blair’s would have to watch on via zoom. But thankfully they were happy & supporting for us to go ahead with the day even though they couldn’t make it. So we ended up with a total of 12 guests.
We were lucky enough to have our family friends allow us to have our ceremony & reception on their beautiful farm. We had the most amazing views & scenery for our ceremony, photos & reception. Along with a spontaneous herd of cows who joined us for the ceremony which just really helped set the scene!
Our favourite detail from the day would have to be the arbour we had at the ceremony. Blair & my brother made the arbour themselves the day before the ceremony with wood they had collected the week prior. It just really set the farm vibe & looked beautiful once our amazing florist put her touches on it.
We didn’t really have a theme, we just wanted to keep everything relaxed, simple & casual as that is very much both of our personalities & we were stoked to exactly achieve that. We kept everything very simple with the natural timber look & neutral colours.
Tell us about your main outfits:
My dress was by Maggie Sottero. It was actually quite the opposite of what I thought I would like. But once I tried it on I very quickly realised that it was exactly me. It very much even shocked Blair when I walked down the aisle as it wasn’t what he expected either, however he loved it & thought it was very much my vibe.
My maid of honour (my beautiful sister) wore a dress from Sheike. She was heavily pregnant at the time so we left getting her a dress to the very last minute. I didn’t have a preference on what style or colour she wore just whatever worked for her. I absolutely love the dress she wore, the colour just fit in so well with everything.
Blair is quite the tall & broad kind of guy so we struggled a little to find clothes that he liked & were in his size. He was very much a fan of the non formal kind of look so he went with black pants, black boots with an open collar & neutral coloured linen jacket.
As for the best man (Blairs handsome twin brother) he wore exactly the same as Blair. We just had him without the buttonhole flower to keep him slightly different to Blair.
What were some of the most memorable/unique moments from the day:
Our most memorable moment from the day would have to be the haka the best man presented at the ceremony for us. It brought tears to everyone’s eyes along with the goosebumps.
Any advice for other couples planning to spend the rest of their lives together:
Make sure you take it all in & really just go with the flow. If something goes wrong just work through it & work with it. It is too special of a day to let the little things that go wrong get to you. We also found not having a strict timeline helped for us so we didn’t feel rushed to do anything & just took our time (easier said than done for most as we had such a small amount of guests so we were able to do this).
After the big day we realised the best investment we made for the day was picking a photographer/videographer who really suited our vibe. We were quite nervous to have our photos taken since its nothing like we had ever done before but our photographer & videographer made the day so easy, fun yet relaxed & chilled for us, it would actually have to be one of the highlights for the day.
After all, the photos & videos are all we have to look back on now & we are just so obsessed with every single moment they captured & we with forever be thankful we have the beautiful memories captured so perfectly.
