This romantic styled shoot aims to marry the antique and the new whilst showcasing the beauty of Antigua, Guatemala.
Sleepy volcanos, cobblestone roads, and architecture full of history, that’s the magical city of Antigua, Guatemala. Known for its charming colonial aesthetic, it is a whimsical town in the depths of Central America crowned with 33 majestic volcanoes.
‘Antigua Guatemala’ is Spanish for ‘old Guatemala’ as it is the site of the original colonial capital. It is a perfect mixture of Mayan culture & Spanish influence. Destroyed by an earthquake in 1773, the ruins are now open for the public to explore the beautiful scenery. This city is a marvelous hot spot for couples looking to host their special day at a one-of-a-kind location.
To showcase the beauty of this city, the vendors involved in this styled shoot placed importance on finding the right wedding gown to encapsulate the modern Spaniard feel they were seeking. Marvelously, couture designer Sonia d’Ochoa had the ideal dress for this occasion. Crafted with multi-layered lace and featuring a dramatic front leg spit, the chosen dress embodied the flawless balance between the traditional and contemporary. The Bouquet featured Callan Lillies (Cartuchos) a flower popularly found in Guatemala that is often depicted in local art and embodies Guatemalan culture.
As you walk through the ruins of Convento Santa Clara, you can appreciate its timeless architecture with the tall arched pillars and detailed sculptures decorating the ancient cream-coloured walls. The gardens are always perfectly manicured and through the darkness of the interior of the building, you will find pockets of light that make it the perfect location for dramatic and intimate photography.
Hosting a celebration in a place like Casa Troccoli won’t need much to create something truly remarkable. A combination of shining golden candles, soft and romantic florals, and a champagne tower are enough to produce an amorous affair that can hypnotise the senses and transport you to the 16th century.
There are endless reasons why Antigua is the perfect location to say your I do’s. For one, this city has been listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site and it is one of the only cities in the world where you can tie the knot in a discovered ruin or ancient church. It also holds a passionate and professional team of vendors that will make your wildest wedding dreams come to reality — helping couples from all over the globe come to this picturesque city to celebrate their love with their closest and dearest.
